This portfolio aims to present the extensive materials within my practice, not only results and end products but the making & thinking processes, brainstorming, sparks of ideas and how new concepts born out of the former and develops again to a transition or passage to the next one.

Mode, Medien, Architektur. Wo treffen sie aufeinander und wo vermischen sich die Grenzen?

 

Afraz Entessari arbeitet interdisziplinär mit Performance, Skulptur und Zeichnung. Die Basis seiner Werke ist meist künstlerische Forschung und Inspiration zieht er aus Architektur, Mode und den Städten, in denen er lebt. Oft erwecken architektonische Elemente sein Interesse, die er in seinen Werken übernimmt, überlagert oder ersetzt. In seiner künstlerischen Forschung wirft er gerne Fragen zur demokratischen Nutzung der Stadt auf - Wem gehört die Stadt? Wie nützen wir den öffentlichen Raum? 

 

In Wien stellt er eine Reihe von Fotografien und Siebdrucken aus, die das konträre Stadtbild zwischen Ornament und Einfachheit, zwischen alt und neu, untersucht. Die Drucke vermischen Ebenen aus Fotos und Überlagerungen gezeichneter Strukturen. Wie eine zweite Haut stülpen sich Zeichnungen über Fassaden, andere Bildteile werden ausgelöscht oder ersetzt. Afraz Entessari möchte so ein Gefühl für die Stadt erzeugen.

Some words about my approach & practice,                                                           March 2019

 

            I am searching to experience diversity and in result to manifest it. Diversity and openness to new explorations are an important part of my discourse. Be it in social interaction or professional practice diversity is the common point. It broadens the perspective and insights. I find it essential for the development of artistic discourse, its emphasis goes on what really matter despite all differences. Diversity is a prominent aspect of today’s global culture. This broadens the spectrum to approach the interdisciplinarity which has been a consistent focus in my artistic research.

Mostly I work in series and the pieces are created around the main idea. The methodology of practice is based on artistic research. Most of the artworks (or the approach behind) are in essence process and archival work. Study & research are fundamental to my art practice. I’m not committed to specific medium but media are chosen according to their fit to the subject. However, to give the overall consistency to the structure within the practice & research I emphasize phenomenology as the attitude and approach behind my research & practice.

                My artistic practice is an exploration; the intangible, oddities & unlikely combination or (sometimes distorted) semantic relation between materials, objects and concepts. With the tendency to expand definitions and dissolving the boundaries…. Working with materials I study their symbolic means & their functional role in human culture and life. With playfulness and touch of absurdity, I engage with materials and sometimes re-live their history - raw materials are like pure feelings & sentience - & language itself as the medium, from title to the text/language as material. The subject of my recent past projects is about the origins of ‘intelligent recording’ & creative behaviour at the early stages of human evolution and how it has shaped and contains prospects for the future and intuitive innovations
